Nasarawa to Establish First Electric Vehicles Production Factory in Nigeria

The Nasarawa State Government, led by Governor Abdullahi Sule, has committed to advancing the development of the state’s lithium resources to establish Nigeria’s first electric vehicle (EV) factory within Nasarawa. This announcement was made during a celebration event marking the governor’s two-year tenure. Nasarawa’s significant lithium reserves have recently gained attention following the inauguration of a lithium processing plant by Avatar New Energy Materials Company Limited, aligning with Nigeria’s broader national goals to promote clean energy and reduce fossil fuel dependency.

Governor Sule emphasized the government’s strategy to ensure that lithium and other minerals extracted in Nasarawa are processed locally before being exported or transported elsewhere, though he acknowledged that current processing activities remain at an initial stage. The deputy governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, highlighted the abundance of lithium deposits in various local government areas and credited the governor’s vision for bringing this resource to national and international focus. The government intends to use these deposits to attract further investment into the state.

The event was organized by the Abdullahi Sule Gidan-Gidan Support Group, led by the governor’s daughter, Hajiya Hussaina Sule, who praised his administration for delivering numerous legacy projects across the state. These include infrastructural developments such as flyovers, underpasses in Lafia and Akwanga, and a new State Secretariat complex housing various ministries and agencies, underscoring progress in multiple sectors under Sule’s leadership.
